Here you are in the heart of Provence, the region of the Luberon and hilltop villages, lavender fields and Mont Ventoux,
whose capital is Avignon, and the Provence of festivals, brightly-coloured markets, olive oil and good wine.

Its exceptionally sunny climate, stones which have stood the test of time over centuries, protected natural areas, and a sense of celebration and tradition make the Vaucluse the real inland kingdom of Provence: hilltop villages, the Colorado of Provence, the Roman Theatre in Orange, the Palais des Papes, the Avignon festival, Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards, antique dealers in l’Isle sur la Sorgue… and a simple but tasty cuisine have all contributed to the fame of the region.

Capital of the famous Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards and also known as the City of Popes, Avignon has a remarkable heritage, which is now listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
Up until the end of the 18th century, the city was owned by the popes who themselves lived here throughout the whole of the 14th century, making the town the capital of the Christian world, or “the other Rome”. Seven popes marked the town with a splendour which it has never lost: a crown of ramparts over 4 kilometres long, the largest Gothic palace in the world and a church at every turn - and not forgetting the famous Pont d’Avignon, sung about by children all over the world.

L’Isle sur la Sorgue is also famous for its huge Provencal market on Sunday mornings, listed as an Outstanding Market for its atmosphere and the quality of the goods.
